MiD Mediation & Counselling
Family Mediation helps those involved in family breakdown to communicate better with one another and reach their own decisions about all or some of the issues arising from separation or divorce.
What is mediation?
FAMILY MEDIATION helps those involved in family breakdown to communicate better with one another and reach their own decisions about all or some of the issues arising from separation or divorce.
A family mediator assists couples to make joint decisions about their separate futures, the children, finance, property and other important matters.
Mediation can reduce misunderstanding and bitterness and save unnecessary legal costs. It is not a substitute for legal advice and clients are encouraged to consult solicitors when necessary.
Mediation is confidential (except in circumstances where the mediator believes any adult or child to be at serious risk of harm)
What happens in mediation?
First, each of you meets with the mediator to find out about mediation and consider how it might be useful. After this first meeting, if both of you and the mediator decide to go ahead with mediation, a joint meeting is arranged for you. As you make joint decisions in the mediation session(s), they are written down and can be turned into legal documents by your solicitors, if you both agree.
What is the cost?
There is a standard charge for all first appointments unless you are eligible for public funding, in which case this will be free of charge. Mediation generally takes between 3-5 sessions depending on the issues to be resolved and in order to keep mediation as affordable as possible, fees are charged according to income. If you are eligible for public funding there is no charge for our service. A full list of charges is available here.
